Position Summary

The Part-Time Simulation Operations Specialist provides technical and operational support for the Simulation Center. This role assists with the setup, operation, maintenance, and troubleshooting of high-fidelity manikins, task trainers, audiovisual systems, and instructional technology to ensure high-quality simulation-based learning experiences. The Simulation Technician works closely with faculty, staff, and students and plays a key role in creating realistic, safe, and effective learning environments.

Key Responsibilities

Simulation Setup & Operation

  • Prepare manikins, task trainers, standardized patients, and simulation rooms prior to educational activities.
  • Operate high-fidelity patient simulators, scenario software, and audiovisual recording/streaming systems.
  • Assist with real-time simulation flow, including scenario progression and environmental adjustments.
  • Apply moulage, props, and environmental elements to enhance realism.
  • Reset and turn over rooms between sessions to maintain efficiency and flow.

Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot basic equipment, software, and connectivity issues before and during simulations.
  • Perform routine cleaning, inspection, and minor maintenance of simulators and equipment.
  • Assist with equipment updates, calibration, and preparation for vendor servicing or repairs.

Collaboration & Instructional Support

  • Work with faculty and simulation staff to support learning objectives and prepare instructional materials.
  • Assist in translating instructional needs into simulation setup and technical execution.
  • Assist standardized patients and student participants during simulation activities.
  • Maintain a safe, respectful, and professional learning environment.

Operational & Administrative Support

  • Monitor and maintain inventory of supplies, consumables, and equipment.
  • Assist with scheduling support, data entry, and documentation of simulation sessions.
  • Contribute to the development and improvement of simulation workflows and operational processes.
  • Follow institutional policies, safety practices, infection control standards, and confidentiality guidelines (FERPA, HIPAA-adjacent environments).

Qualifications

Education:

  • Associate degree or relevant certification in healthcare, IT, AV technology, or related fields preferred.
  • Equivalent experience in technical or healthcare settings is considered.

Experience:

  • Prior experience in simulation, healthcare, education, IT/AV, or customer service is desirable.
  • Training and professional development are provided.

Skills & Competencies

  • Basic knowledge of computer systems, networking concepts, and audiovisual equipment.
  • Strong organizational, troubleshooting, and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work effectively with diverse faculty, staff, and students.
  • Adaptability and comfort with changing schedules based on simulation needs.
  • Strong communication skills and attention to detail.

Work Schedule & Conditions

  • Part-time, approximately 10–20 hours per week during fall and spring semesters (hours vary depending on scheduled simulations).
  • May include occasional evenings or weekends.
  • Work performed in a simulation lab, clinical learning environment, and control room setting.

Physical Requirements

  • Ability to move and set up equipment (up to 50 lbs).
  • Extended periods of standing, bending, or sitting at control stations.
