Design Engineer I Who are we? Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Starting as a hardware supply store during the California Gold Rush and eventually assisted in the birth of the aerospace industry in Southern California by providing aircraft aluminum to early aerospace pioneers like Lindbergh, Douglas and Lockheed. Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications. Our Performance Center in Carson, CA is the Engineered Products Group site for our Human Machine Interface, Motion Control Device, and Radio Frequency (RF) product lines. Job Summary Design and develop mechanical components, parts, and assemblies using SolidWorks. Create detailed 3D CAD models, 2D drawings, and engineering documentation. Perform tolerance stack-ups, fit and clearance analysis, and basic design calculations. Design components for manufacturability, assembly, serviceability, and cost optimization. Review and modify existing designs to improve performance, reliability, and manufacturability. Collaborate with manufacturing, tooling, quality, materials, and analysis teams throughout the product development process. Support prototype development, testing, validation, and production release. Participate in design reviews and resolve technical issues related to mechanical components. Manage engineering changes and maintain accurate product design data and documentation. Ensure designs comply with applicable industry standards, company procedures, and customer requirements. Maintain weekly progress reporting (Project Management and project timesheet) Support facility and corporate strategic goals Adhere to General Requirements of Team Members Perform other assignments as required
